Global Warming, Glass Half Empty?

by JimmieNew on October 12, 2009

global warming (2)This appears to be “a” question of the day. It is an important one because depending on which “answer” is chosen, our lives will be more effected by the government than by the climate.

There are blocks of scientists on each side of the question supporting the view that “man” is responsible for climate change and the opposing view that climate change is simply “life on earth;” and we are pitifully arrogant to think we can have such an effect on our planet. We exist, in essence, at the whim of the earth, not the other way around.

So you get to choose which of these outcomes you believe to be true and consequently what human action should be taken, including none. It is an up to date version of looking at the glass as half empty, or half full. I suggest global warmers are the half empty crowd though way past that. They seem to believe the straw is sucking air at the bottom of the glass and if we don’t “globally” undertake drastic measures now, immediately, yesterday isn’t soon enough…the earth will die. It just occurred to me that all of the reference in the global warming catastrophic-ism is that the planet will suffer, be the victim as it were.

I guess we are supposed to imply that this would destroy or end life on earth? Or do we conjure up our own pictures of people fighting over food and shelter and living in underground catacombs as Hollywood movies have seemed to be preparing us for to avoid the intense sun radiation? The roving marauders traveling in what is left of the once vast armada of combustion engine automobiles warring over the last few cans of gasoline.

Now let’s see, where did the scenario for these cataclysms come from? The people in government? The people who stand to make money off controlling such events? The people who want to control you? These are the people who not only want to but are implementing methods to reduce your access to food (the California water situation in the San Joaquin Valley), reduce your access to electricity (not allowing power plants to be built and demonizing coal and nuclear production) and let’s not forget to toss in restrict your access now to health care (in the name of helping you out). The key words here are restriction, reduction and limiting your rights and abilities.

On the other hand, what do the people who don’t feel humans are the cause of climate changes, good or bad, want to do? These are the people who want to develop our own energy resources including extracting our own oil resources, natural gas, coal and nuclear, wind, solar and geothermal. The purpose of course is to be self sufficient energy wise and keeping our national security up and our costs down. The economy up, government intervention down.

These are the people who want to keep their freedoms of choice in where to live, what to buy and what health care they want. These people don’t want a bigger government taking more and more of their earning capacity to pay for policies and programs designed to take their freedoms away.  Look up and down your neighborhood. Would you rather have any one of those people make the decisions that effect your life for you? Or would you rather make those decisions for yourself?

The people in congress are no smarter than and probably have less concern over your well being than the neighbor you imagined above. Think, and take action, for yourself.
