Hi Jim,

I really do have to disagree. I think only if you are a black American do you have the right to judge whether black Americans still encounter bigotry and racial unfairness in every day life. And I do mean in simple everyday terms that they do continue to encounter it. It merely can't be erased so quickly; it doesn't make sense. Yes, from our view, the white American view, things HAVE greatly improved...and relations and racial biasness has truly , undoubtedly, improved by all points of view on the subject. However, that is our limited view & we have not walked in the shoes.

As to Jimmie Carter, I don't believe his statements to be ant-semetic in nature. My many Jewish friends do not think so either; I consider highly their opinion on the matter. And some do consider themselves an ethnic group & not just a religion, as it is a sub- culture among many. Carter does feel very s strongly about the Palestinian situation & it's relation to very serious human rights issues. I belong to several international Jewish & non-denominational groups who are right with him on this, even groups in Israel such as the Schmitzim. Have you read the accounts of cluster bombs that have been used there?? It may be worth reading into the subject a bit further.
